Discovering the Spirit of Kyokushin

Jane Beatriz Subida’s martial arts journey began during her high school years under the guidance of Sensei Aldrin Sison, where she first discovered her passion for martial arts. That passion continued into college when Professor/Sensei Valiente introduced her to Kyokushin Karate.

Life presented no shortage of challenges. While pursuing a degree in nursing, Jane balanced the demanding responsibilities of being a working student, a student-athlete, and a future healthcare professional. Despite these commitments, she embraced every opportunity to train and grow.

Less than a month after beginning her Kyokushin journey, she courageously stepped onto the national tournament stage. Although she did not claim victory, the experience gave her something far more valuable—a deeper appreciation for the spirit of Kyokushin and an unwavering determination to improve.

Rather than allowing defeat to define her, Jane used it as motivation to become stronger, proving that every setback is simply another step toward growth.

Returning Stronger Than Ever

After taking several years away from competition to focus on completing her nursing studies, Jane’s passion for Kyokushin never faded.

In 2022, she returned to the dojo through the martial arts varsity team of her alma mater. There, she had the privilege not only to train again but also to coach aspiring athletes, sharing her knowledge while continuing her own development.

The dojo once again became her second home.

The philosophy of Kyokushin—discipline, humility, respect, and perseverance—became more than principles practiced during training. They became values she carried into every aspect of her life.

Today, Jane proudly represents IKAK Binangonan Dojo, carrying with her deep gratitude for the mentors who shaped her journey, especially Sensei Aldrin Sison and Professor/Sensei Valiente.

A Champion on the Mat

Years of perseverance and relentless training have led Jane Beatriz Subida to remarkable achievements in full-contact karate.

Her accomplishments include:

  • Champion, 20th National Kyokushinryu Full-Contact Karate Tournament – Women’s 60 kg Below Division
  • Philippine Representative, 29th Dragon Cup International Friendship Karate Championships in Kagoshima, Japan
  • Private Duty Nurse, IKAK Binangonan Dojo

Each achievement reflects not only competitive excellence but also countless hours of discipline, sacrifice, and continuous self-improvement.

Living the Kyokushin Way Every Day

For Jane, the lessons of Kyokushin extend far beyond the dojo.

As a registered nurse, she applies the values of discipline, patience, resilience, and mental focus every day while caring for her patients. These qualities enable her to remain composed under pressure and provide compassionate, high-quality care.

Regular training also plays an important role in maintaining her physical health, helping her stay fit while managing a naturally weak immune system.

Beyond its physical benefits, Kyokushin provides Jane with balance, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose. It continues to shape her character and inspires her to lead by example, encouraging others to embrace discipline, pursue continuous self-improvement, and discover the life-changing values of Kyokushin Karate.

More Than a Martial Art

For Jane Beatriz Subida, Kyokushin is far more than a competitive sport.

It is a lifelong journey built on discipline, resilience, humility, and the constant pursuit of becoming a better person.

Her story reminds us that true success is not measured solely by victories but by the courage to continue despite every setback.

As she continues representing IKAK Binangonan Dojo and the Philippines, Jane carries with her the true spirit of Osu—a commitment to lifelong learning, perseverance, and service to others.

Her favorite quote perfectly reflects the philosophy that has guided her journey:

“Success is not measured by how many times you win, but by how many times you choose to continue.”

For Jane Beatriz Subida, every challenge is another opportunity to grow stronger—both as a karateka and as a registered nurse. Her journey stands as an inspiration to aspiring martial artists, proving that with discipline, resilience, and heart, success extends far beyond the competition mat.

Osu!
